HELP Makes More Donations

This has been a good week for HELP Murcia Mar Menor and an even better week for the charities Caritas Torre Pacheco and A.M.M.A. as HELP has been able to make donations from funds raised during 2015 to both organisations to enable them to carry on their good works.

On Wednesday 4th May Pat Massingham HELP´s President accompanied by Vice President Elaine Dale presented Snr. Jose Garcia Martinez, President of Caritas Torre Pacheco with a cheque for €2000 which will enable Caritas to continue it´s work in the area.

Torre Pacheco is a large town and there are at least 500 families in need of help which Caritas does in different ways.

It provides free food and clothing to families with no income or benefits. It also runs a small supermarket where people who have vouchers can buy food at much reduced prices.

Caritas also runs a shelter for the homeless where they can stay for up to three nights. They are able to house up to 16 people who get bed, breakfast, and use of a shower. These people are normally brought in by the police and are in genuine need.

Caritas also runs a centre for children with learning difficulties. These children are helped with extra lessons in order to achieve a higher standard in their own time.

On Friday May 6th it was the turn of A.M.M.A. (Alzheimer Mar Menor Association) to be presented with a cheque which will swell their funds and enable them to continue to run workshops for people with dementia in the San Pedro del Pinatar area.

These workshops are supervised by professionals and at the moment they are able to look after up to ten people on a Wednesday and Friday morning between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm and provide some respite for the families.

Again Pat Massingham the President of HELP Murcia Mar Menor presented a cheque for €2000 to Raquel Peña, President of A.M.M.A. who was accompanied by Belen Quieruga at the Pensionistas Club in San Pedro del Pinatar.

Raquel Peña said during the presentation that one of the future aims of A.M.M.A. is to establish a residential care home in the area for those suffering from Alzheimers and other dementias. “The old Los Arcos hospital would make a perfect care home for those in need of help” she said.

HELP Murcia Mar Menor has supported A.M.M.A. in past years and was pleased to make another donation from funds raise by HELP during 2015.
